My pipes are frozen in my mobile home

Open all doors to under sinks with a heater couple of feet away. Turn on water spiket slightly.

Heat tape is to be wrapped around under trailer pipes. The hot water pipe will freeze up first (heat attracts the cold moisture to the pipe).

At night when it will be extra cold leave hot %26amp; cold water dripping in all sinks %26amp; tub to assist keeping them from freezing.

No do not use a hair dryer.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a heat tape. They come in long lengths like 20 or 30 feet. Measure your frozen line to the connection at the ground to the trailer. Then take that footage and multiply it by about 1.25 That is the length of tape you need.

Then take that heat tape and wrap that line with it at about 1 wrap per foot. Then wrap that heat tape with ordinary fiber glass wrap that comes for this purpose and is about 6 inch wide.

Plug the heat tape in. It will unthaw the pipe in minutes.

The heat tape has a thermostat in it so that when the surface goes to about 38 F he kicks on and heats the water line preventing a future freeze.

Thats about it. Good and easy job for the homeowner to do.

PVC pipes are white plastic. Your pipes probably run under the length of the trailer. They freeze because there is not enough insulation around the pipes. You are going to have to open up the trailer skirt and crawl under the trailer. At the home supply store they sell foam pipe insulation which is really easy to apply. Put this foam insulation around your pipes. It has a slit cut down the one side of it so all you have to do is slip it over the pipe. Also check so see if there is anything you can do to minimize the amount of cold air blowing under the trailer. If the trailer skirt has damage to it that is where the cold air may be getting in. Check to see if all of the faucets in the trailer are frozen. If it just one then you know which run of pipes are causing the problem. You can use a hair dryer or a small space heater to warm up the pipes.

Copper pipe is copper color. pvc is grey, blue , or white.

I would suggest that you go to a plumbing supply company and discuss your problem with them, as they have special low level heating devices that are wrapped around the pipes to prevent freezing in the first place.

In the meantime use your hairdrier to thaw the pipes.

As you have used the terminology mobile home I suspect that you are in UK. get the pipes thouroughly insulated with ARMAFLEX rubber insulation, you may not need the more drastic action of heater tape.
