The NZ plug is the same as the Australian one.

The two rectangular pins are angled.

If you are buying in the UK what is typically labeled an American plug adapter will work because they are designed so that the pins can be rotated from the American vertical position to the NZ angled position. Best not to assume though and check. Got mine from Boots.

See the Kropla site and look at type I plugs and sockets. The sockets always have a ground recess which is vertical, the active and neutral are angled so that the plug can be put in one way only. Most higher power appliances have 3 pin plugs. The pins are flat. NZ runs 240 Volt 50 hertz and if you are writing from the USA, the voltage will burn out an American hairdryer in half a second. The adapters DO NOT convert voltage. A step down transformer 240 to 120 Volt capable of handling a hairdryer will weigh several pounds - perhaps 20. If you are writing from a 230/240 Volt country you are laughing but get a grounded adapter.

Not worth the hassle; buy a cheap hair dryer there if you must have one. Cuts down on the weight and bulk of your luggage. Considering the total cost of the trip, it's hardly anything.

Some hotels have them in the room.
