We have a well, none of our faucets work because they are frozen. What can I do?

I have all of the faucets open. We have a heat lamp in our garage where the water pipes are located as well as our water softener. We left our cabinet doors open as instructed. Our pipes still froze. I have a small space heater that I am rotating around to each sink. We are expected to have below zero temperatures for the next four to five days. How can I thaw the pipes without getting under the double wide? Is this possible? I have also used a hair dryer but I have had no success in unthawing them.

Just give it time. We had this yesterday! We put a salamander, which is a huge garage heater, in the garage and it warmed to quickly and busted a pipe. Not too bad, we got it fixed. But you don't want to warm to quickly, it makes the ice expand in the pipe and bust it. Warm slowly like you are. It could take hours. It took about 2 hours with the heater like your talking about and 1 hour with the salamander before it busted. But the salamander really throws ALOT of heat. We still had trouble this morning. Only the tub and toilet, and the blowdryer got it in under 30 minutes today. But, there are doors right behind the wall to open to put heat directly on the pipes. We actually used a blow dryer years ago under our trailer we lived in. Just make sure you don't have it by anything and it can blow on the pipes if you do this and keep an eye on it. Good luck. This is a pain.

if you can get any of your faucets to drip, it will help in thawing the pipes. when a deep freeze sets in, you should always have your faucets dripping.

always leave the faucets drip (one drip every 10-20 sec).

space heaters willl work but it will take some time.

If you can get as much heat as possible next to the pump that would be the best place to start.

For thawing you should stick to one pipe at a time. Go to the sink cold water faucet and see if any water is trickling out . If not hold the heater under the sink for a while, then work your way back toward the well. (Don't skip around from one location to another and don't start thawing near the well since the heat will turn the water to steam and split the pipe). When you get water coming out of that faucet leave it running and start on another. The worst problem will be either not having enough heat from the small heater or being too close to surfaces and charring them. Once water comes through the pipe from the well it will melt the rest of the internal ice because that water is above freezing.

You might want to look at getting those heating tapes that you wrap around exposed pipes. They turn on and give gentle heat to a pipe. They w ill prevent future problems and will consume no electricity till it gets dangerously cold on the pipe.

hello, i have the same problem, but i have a full basement, the only thing that has worked for me has bee to build around my pipes using 2 inch foam insulation board, and a utility knife and urathane glue to make the joints, i made a box around my pipes, and for as long as they go through the house, cutting and glueing a protective covering around the pipes, and when done i used a small space heater included in the box to keep them warm it works well, i hope this helps you, best wishes.

GOOD LUCK. I WOULD GO TO HOME DEPOT, MENARDS OR A HARDWARE STORE AND BUY A COUPLE EXTENSION CORDS AND A FEW ROLLS OF FROST-X(HEAT TAPE) IT WORKS GREAT. WE USE IT ALL THE TIME ON PROBLEM-MATIC WATER SYSTEMS.

unfortunately honey, Chris says there isn't really anything you can do. he said the only way you can really prevent it is to let the water run all night which obviously isn't a logical thing to do.. He also said you can get heat tape at the hardware store and wrap your pipes, or if you can get a hold of a salamander heater and point it under the trailer that is what he used to do, but you really need to watch not to set you trailer on fire... He also said that more than likely when the pipes froze tehy cracked and when they unfreeze you are probably going to have a mess. water will be squirting everywhere...Hope this doesn't happen but Chris says its normal.. I am so sorry this is happening to you guys, never seems to fail. Love you and will talk soon..Jo
