I did my first twist set on my sister and i parted her hair and two strand?

twist it all the way down all over and it was about 12 of the all over and sat her under the dryer. Now it was just suppose to be wavy but it came out almost like a straw set can anybody tell me why and how am I actually suppose to do them. She is also afro-american. Do I suppose to gel her sides when I'm done twisting them and what kind of setting lotion do I use?

I usually braid(lots of little plaits) my hair with any kind of setting lotion when it's wet, and I let my hair air dry(I hate sitting under the dryer). My hair is wavy after I unbraid it, but don't make the mistake I did the first time and comb it. You'll end up with a frizzy mess, just run your fingers through it to comb it out. Best wishes
