How many watts does a microwave use?

I am using an American microwave overseas and have to use a electricity converter. There are two choices on the converter: 50 watts or 1600 watts. It says only use the 1600 watts for hair dryers or travel irons. But a microwave must use more than that?

you will want to look at the maximum amperage draw and the operational voltage. multiply amps * voltage to get maximum current draw most ( you would carry around) will be around 5-7 amps so look for 600 to 800 watts max. Hair dryers and curling irons are both power hunger devices so if you get one get the bigger one.

There will be a label on the microwave that displays how many watts it uses. It can be found in one of three places normally: on the back, on the bottom, or just inside the door. The label is probably about the size of a business card. You can also get the model number form there and search the mfg website.

That is quite a discrepency in converter rate 50 -1600.

Look on the back of the microwave, there should be a tag or plate that tells you what the wattage range for it is, if I had to take a guess, I'd say that it would be the 1600.

use the 1600 watts option

most microwaves run 800 to 1200 watts
