Do American made straightners & hairdryers fit into the electrical outlets in Ireland?

Do American made straightners, hair dryers, etc, work in electrical outlets in Ireland?

You'll definitely have to buy an adapter before you go to Ireland. I was just there in the Fall. I found everything I needed at Radio Shack.

You get an adapter but you would be better off buying a hairdryer there.

An Adapter will decrease the effectiveness of your hairdryer and burn out the motor so you will have to buy a new one when you get back

Watch out !

The plug/socket is different but so is the electricity.

You will need both a plug/socket adapter and a electrical transformer. This will change the voltage from 220 to 110.

If you do not get a transformer you might just melt your hairdryer etc.

Radioshack will be able to help you.

A cheap Hairdryer in ireland will not cost much when you get there.

No - you need an adapter AND a converter. They're electrical sockets are different.

If you buy a hairdryer that can switch back and forth between 110 and 220 volts, you only need the adapter. Otherwise American made appliances will either get fried or knock out the power (that happened to a friend of mine in France - she plugged something in and tripped the circuit for the whole hotel).
