Hi we are going on holiday to Brazil and staying at the Super Club Breezes Hotel in Costa De Sauipe where they have 220 v AC but while we are in Brazil we are planning on also visiting Rio and Iguassu Falls where we understand they have 110 v AC. What exactly will we have to buy and take with us so that we can use UK hair dryers, phone chargers and other assorted electrics. Thanks AJ
What do I need for UK electrical equipment in Brazil?
The usual in most of the country is 110v. The only catch is the outlet plug, even though they use both, the 2 round ones or flat, the flat ones over there are exactly the same width, so it won' t fit US equipments which have one side wider than the other. Another problem is laptop computers, if yours has that third plug you will need an adapter. The best thing to do is buy an universal outlet adapter. I bought mine at a duty free shop for about ten bucks and I can use it world wide. But if your problem is also the voltage, you will need to buy an electric adapter to convert from 110 to 220v or vice versa(depends of what kind is usual in UK), which is pretty big and heavy to be carrying around.

Am really sorry AJ but I don't know. When I moved to Brazil I moved from Germany where I grew up so I can't say what you will need for english equipment to work there. I think however I have come across this question before and if you search the answers you might find it...again sorry I can't help you further

All you need is an adapter, but the hotel you are staying at will provide one for you, upon request.

Hi there. I moved to Brazil from England. First off I had to change the plugs on all appliances because the width between the pins was not the same. Then I needed converters for 220v to 110v and each one is so heavy it requires both hands to lift it. Just getting an adapter plug is no good if you need the converter as well. I would just forget about bringing any appliances from England. Most hotels have a hair dryer in the bathroom. For the phone charger the hotel might be able to provide a converter. Not worth carting one around. Incidently I have stayed at Sauipe and your hotel is a very good one.Enjoy your holiday!

You'll need one plug adapter and one voltage transformer as well. If your equipment is "bivolt", then only the plug adapter is needed.
